Christmas Traditions by Anne

To start off this week's 1st, A memory of Christmas with a recipe.

Thank you, Anne, for taking the time to send me an email and sharing your Christmas memory.

Here is what she wrote to me.

When I think of Christmas time, my grand mum and grandpa come to mind.

They didn’t have much money, but oh how they knew to celebrate Christmas.

Singing Christmas songs, an amazing meal, the dessert was so good (my favorite time of the eveningJ., lots of laughter, gift, and my grandpa used to dress up as Santa clause and grandma was the elf. So, many great memories!

Baking with my grand mum and mum was extra special, I learned that I love to bake in my later years, and baking the traditional recipes is my favorite as it brings back such great memories. Ohhh… the smell when you walk into the kitchen is amazing, it gives you a warm & fussy feeling.

My grandparents were from England, they came over in the early 1900s by boat. We eat/ate very traditional English meals. Roast beef with Yorkshire Pudding, Parsnips, Mac & Cheese with 2-year-old cheese, and the list continues.

But Christmas time was the stuffed turkey, Plum Pudding (flambéed), Glazed Carrots, Ham, and Harvard Beets. For dessert, Butter Tarts, Mincemeat Tarts, and best of all Dark Fruit Cake, it was wonderful and that tradition continues today with my family.

My grandparents came from Birmingham & Manchester, England.

Never been there myself but my parents have and visited where my Mum's parents came from and stayed, hopefully, one day soon I will travel the same path as they did.

Here is my recipe;

Sometimes I put a twist on the recipe and add pecans or without anything.

Hope you enjoy one of our family's favorite recipe.

Merry Christmas!
